Literature Text

How I wish that friendships were blue threads
Tied between mates and pulled taut with use
So that I could take a pair of scissors
and cleanly and finally cut you loose

Close to the knot on my ring finger
with as little as physically possible left
I'd cut the string holding us together
and hope you could deal with the tangled mess

So that I could show the knots on my digits
How this thread was not torn by gradual wear
Nor did it fray from persistent stretching
Or tugging that caused it eventually to tear

I'd wear that thread ring as a silent reminder
An encouragement for all around me to see
Of when with trembling hands, I picked up rusty scissors
And used the dull blades to cut myself free
So I know the title (and the poem) is dumb, but I wrote it at three in the morning and wanted to share~

This is sad, but good.
